Current Alumni Spotlight: Melanie Portnov
What’s an important lesson you learned through dancing at Movement & Sound?: How dance and the community I made was always there for me, and helped me through many moments in my life.
When you were in high school, where did dance take you?: I was on Orchesis! What’s your favorite memory of your time at M&S?: Creating so many different crafts for summer camps- I miss cutting all the little papers. In what ways did you continue dance after high school?: I am an artist who uses movement in my paintings, fabric work, and ceramic sculptures through color and full body motions of my paint brush or tools and through different textures of materials, dance is very prevalent in my work. FUN FACT - Melanie and her dad painted the beautiful mural in our main hallway! |

What was your favorite part about dancing at Movement & Sound?: My favorite part of dancing at Movement and Sound was getting to spend everyday with my close friends and learning from the best teachers who genuinely cared and were excited about teaching dance.
When you were in high school, where did dance take you?: When I was in high school I was on the competition teams at M&S and I was also on the poms team at Stevenson. I also assisted for a couple of classes at M&S. What’s your favorite style of dance?: My favorite style of dance is hip hop and contemporary/lyrical. In what ways did you continue dance after high school?: After high school I went to University of Kentucky and made the dance team. On the dance team I danced at football and basketball games, performed at various volunteering events, and competed in UDA nationals. |
